Also, for what it's worth, when that other bug happens for me, using
SHIFT in some programs will cause them to segfault. If I (in Gnome) go
to System -> Preferences -> Keyboard, and change the keyboard model (on
the "Layouts" tab), it starts working fine again, and apps don't
segfault. Does this work to fix it for you?
