Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: nautilus
Alright, I can't seem to find this bug anywhere, but Nautilus can't for
the love of anything handle big amount of files (15000+). I timed the
opening of a folder of 160 000 folders on my desktop, 2.3GHz 2048MiB
RAM:
Konqueror: 77 seconds
Windows Vista 64bit explorer: ~3 minutes
Nautilus: About 20 minutes (!!)
Why does it need to be so slow? Why can't Nautilus get the file list and
display the first x items? Generally someone opening a folder with a
huge amount of files only cares about a couple of files. Maybe handle
big amount of data kind of the way Gedit does.
And of course this is reflected when browsing files with the embedded
browser when you need to open, upload something or anything alike.
Ubuntu amd64 8.04 Hardy Heron, Nautilus 2.22.2
** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
