A BIG thankyou Don, for doggedly pursuing this. I would never have worked this one out. I encountered the same problem yesterday. I have 2 IDE drives. In my case, the cable quality was the problem, and it actually started off being an intermittent problem. Sometimes the system could boot up, but even when it did, it couldn't read the 2nd IDE drive.
