I had a similar problem in Hardy. When i tried to log out the computer frezze for about 1 minute. Durint that time interval I could only press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
I was only using GNONE without composite manager.. but previously in feisty i was trying the new KDE. Removing the whole .kde folder solved the problem .
