Thanks for the prompt reply. I believe you, but somehow my /mnt/foo
mount appeared both on the desktop and in the places section of file
selection windows in 7.10. I don't remember doing anything to tell
Ubuntu to do this, but maybe I'm forgetting something. On the desktop,
the icon for the mount was uneditable, and in the places dialog, it was
listed in the top section, which users can't edit.

Is there a way to manually tell Ubuntu to do this without changing the
mount location (which would require me to change several apps'
configurations)?
