I have the same issue as the original poster.

I also ran a Wireshark sniff, but from the server-side. The lag did
occur during the capture, and seems to correlate with the sections of
the capture where the client responds with TCP/Synergy/NOP packets
instead of blank TCP/ACK packets. Capture attached.

I was about to reconfigure my kernel without the CONFIG_FAIR_GROUP_SCHED
option, but then I discovered that the following made synergy run well:

sudo nice -n -20 synergyc <server IP>
