Thanks smazzux, that works. There should be a warning at least saying that it would fail without at least four non-empty directories within the user's home directory, either on the package description or a pop-up in the game itself. The error would likely happen on clean installations of Ubuntu as there is nothing in the home directory by default except for the Desktop and Examples directories. I still consider this bug open until a decent warning can be made.
