Public bug reported:

This is Hard Heron, Kubuntu, LiveDVD, release version.

When booting from a DVD or live DVD, the DVD drive is /dev/sda. When
booting normally the hard drive is /dev/sda. As a result, attempting to
install, I theorize, attempts to install grub to the DVD...which fails.

Checking /boot/grub/menu.lst reveals that the system is expecting to
boot from (hd1,6), where (hd0,6) would be proper.

Debian installed LILO and booted properly. When I hand edited the
menu.lst file and installed grub in the mbr of the hard disk, then
Debian booted properly. Unfortunately, about that time my DVD drive
drawer got stuck out, so I haven't investigated further. I *THINK* I
could now boot from Ubuntu, but I'm not certain. (I have different
distributions in different partitions.) If more information is needed,
I may be able to investigate further after Tuesday, when a repairman is
expected. (It's just are DVD replacement...but currently I'm under
warranty, so... [new system, so new install].)

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
