Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I upgraded my Ubuntu operating system last week. After completing the
upgrade Rhythmbox no longer had any required codecs to play my music.
Everytime I try to play a song I get asked to search for the proper
codec to listen to that file.

Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008
Synaptic 0.61ubuntu9

I expected my music to play without any problems.

Instead, my music doesn't play and i am consistently asked to search for
the proper codecs.
