As I see it, there still has been no reason given, why moving Firefox to the "restricted" component wouldn't be a good solution.
Ubuntu already installs packages from "restricted" by default, so where would be the harm if Firefox was one of them? The regular user wouldn't even know about it and doing so would resolve this bug pretty easily. It's a win-win situation, in my opinion.
