Since upgrade to Hardy Heron, one of my machines will not reboot. It
fails POST with a screen which says:
Hardware Monitor...
CPU Temp: 243C
If the machine in question is switched off at the wall for at least 5
seconds it can then be booted okay. This issue does not occur when
rebooting from Gutsy (which I still have installed on another partition)
or Windows. The only time I have seen these symptoms before (I think)
was a year or so ago when using the then-current Ubuntu. Whilst setting
up LM-Sensors (running sensors detect if memory serves), the next reboot
gave this issue.
Hardware is Biostar Ideq-210P barebones with NForce 3 chipset, Sempron
3000 processor and 1 GB RAM.
Whilst there is a workaround, I would urge this bug gets worked as it
could be a deeply unsettling experience for a Linux newbie. This issue
happens with 100% of reboots from Hardy, and 0% from any other OS.
Given the failure occurs during POST I can't think of any logs worth
posting here, but let me know if there is some info I can get from the
machine in question.
