Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu. Gutsy
did install wrong values in /etc/usplash.conf which caused various
issue, but this problem is now fixed in Hardy. Can you install a fresh
Hardy installation and confirm if this bug is fixed for your laptop?
