Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aptitude

Some preferences (changes to string options) can't be saved of
aptitude's interface are not saved to disk when I quit.

I'm used to set display format with a %t at the end, to show for each package
the distribution it cames from.
Go to "Options"->"Preferences" and then press Enter and edit the format for
displaying package.

In aptitude from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS "Hardy" (version 0.4.9-2ubuntu5) this
field is reset to default value each time aptitude is closed, it's no
more saved - see ~/.aptitude/config

This is clearly a regression since I used to set this preference for a
long long time. I've noticed, that this bug is already fixed in Debian,
see http://bugs.debian.org/471315 :

Changes:
 aptitude (0.4.11.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release.
     - Save interactive changes to string options. (Closes: #471315)
     - Don't crash if debtags has been purged (Closes: #472695).

I think this bug should be fixed in 8.04 LTS updates or, at least, in
backports.
