Ubuntu is not incorrectly configuring a "second" card for your laptop.
Your sound hardware is comprised of a dsp and a codec. The codec is
driven by snd-ac97-codec and is listed as the Realtek ALC202. It is
simply the OSS perspective of the same ALSA device (ALSA allows for
emulating OSS).

Your real issue appears to be an acpi one.
