I am using Ubuntu 8.04. This problem occurs for me when a disk volume is improperly disconnected during a session. When the disk is reconnected, oftentimes, two icons for the volume will appear on the desktop. The second volume can be unmounted normally, but the original "orphaned" icon always appears on the desktop until the next reboot.
The attached screenshot shows the problem. Here we have two "VM" volumes displayed on the desktop and in the filesystem tree. One volume works fine, the other is orphaned. When attempting to unmount the orphaned volume, the error message referenced in this thread appears. It looks to me like there should be a way to unmount or clear these orphaned volumes without having to reboot, but currently there is no solution that I know of. Help would be appreciated. Thanks. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot.png" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14228048/Screenshot.png -- Can't unmount/eject external USB hard drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226606 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
