I can confirm this behavior on a Thinkpad R61 7733A82 (with Intel
graphics) on a ThinkPad Essential Port Replicator while running 64-bit
Ubuntu with a "USB to parallel-port-printer" accessory.

This bug also appears to be a kernel *regression*. This was not an issue
in Gutsy. Now, the upgrade has left Gutsy's 2.6.22 kernel sitting
around, and I find I can boot Hardy with that kernel; when I do so, this
bug is not present.

DaveAbrahams: am I correct to interpret your posts as saying that the
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH workaround worked for you? It does not work for
me. Frankly, I'm surprised that /etc/defaults/acpi-support would do
anything, since acpi-support does not handle
suspend/hibernate/resume/thaw anymore (if I understand correctly).
