Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: debian-installer
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy, using the alternate install disk.
The bug can be replicated using VirtualBox with 3 IDE hard drives. First hard
drive for /, second and third drive as physical volumes for raid0.
In the installer, I selected the raid device as physical volume for encryption,
and configured the encrypted device (without selecting a mount point).
This should have created an appropriate entry in /etc/crypttab (something like
"md0_crypt /dev/md0 none luks"); and when booting the system the raid device
should have been assembled first, and then md0_crypt should have been
configured (using a passphrase). However, the entry was not written to
/etc/crypttab (the file is empty except for the the comment explaining the
syntax), and hence the encrypted volume wasn't configured.
If /dev/mapper/md0_crypt is listed in /etc/fstab this would have produced an
error and dropped the user to the rescue console.
This issue is particularly difficult to fix if the root file system is
to be an encrypted raid. Otherwise, adding the entry to /etc/crypttab
will fix the problem (i.e. the encrypted raid can be mounted)
