Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04, with new kernels and Gparted 0.3.5 can install more easily but
then have problems that Ubuntu 7.10 using Gparted 0.3.3 doesn't.
In my case, as reported by Bug Report #221953 (quick-fixed by using PySDM).

However some other folk are now telling me that when at last trying
'real' rather than 'virtual' installation, the Ubuntu 8.04
installation process cannot correctly find their drives in a mixed
SATA/IDE hard drive situation, which may be specific BIOS/IDE controller
related, but perhaps Gparted should be changed ?

Please note that I am a retired electronic systems engineer and enthusiastic
user, not a Linux expert.
As an engineer I am used to 'using what works' rather than agonising over
precisely what is the problem cause and looking for the 'puurfec' answer.

Whilst trying out different kernels, trying out different Gparteds might
be worth the effort ?

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
