Not sure if my problem is related to Daniel's but it's the same hardware. I tried the troubleshooting. Playback via OSS and "Applications -> Sound & Video -> Volume Control" is the only thing that works. Recording, alsamixer, and ALSA playbacx does not work. Details:
For playback in "System -> Preferences -> Sound" , "Autodetect" and "OSS" work (a sample tone is played.) "ALSA" and "STAC92xx Analog" show: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback. Sound capture does not work at all (except on the test / silence devices.) "STAC92xx Analog" and "ALSA" show: gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat: Could not open audio device for recording. "OSS" hangs for a bit then shows: Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat' "PulseAudio" shows: gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat: Failed to connect: Connection refused I followed the debugging instructions at the URL you mentioned. During that I discovered: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ alsamixer alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory I will attach the requested debugging information. ** Attachment added: "uname-a.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14344343/uname-a.log -- no sound from my Dell Dimension 9100 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99659 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
