Binary package hint: openoffice.org
I've installed Hardy on several computers and on each one it is
impossible to enable java with the standard installation.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Go to Options->Java, select "Add" JRE
2. Browse to Java installation, click on the Java home folder
3. Error: this folder does not contain a JRE, continue to select any folder ad
infinitum, none are recognized to have a JRE
4. Install "openoffice.org" metapackage (not installed by default)
5. Surf to the JRE directory of choice.
6. Java now works.
Some necessary package (openoffice.org-java-common?) seems to be missing
in the default install. I think since so many OO.o filters and
functions depend on java, it should be enabled by default.
At the very least, there should be a useful message: "Java is not
enabled by default. Please install openoffice.org-java-common and try
again" instead of the misleading message that there is no JRE.
