Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx-envy

8.04 386i LTS Ubuntu Studio.

HP 1330n desktop, AMD Athlon64 3800+ 2.4Ghz 2.9G 3200 ram. On board ATI
Radeon Express 200MT/s AC97 built in sound.

After using envy to get the latest ati drivers for my Radeon 200 I get
random artifacts on my monitor and ocasionally the display freezes and
requires a hard reboot.

This seems to happen fairly randomly now and does not seem to be
dependent on cpu load but I did not have this problem before I started
using ALSA and Jackd. I am suspicious of a PCI handler issue.

I found the following messages:

May 7 16:39:32 mark-desktop kernel: [ 202.192593]
[fglrx:fireglAsyncioIntEnableMsgHandler] *ERROR* IRQMGR returned error 1 when
trying to enable interrupt source 20008000
May 7 16:39:32 mark-desktop kernel: [ 202.193609] [fglrx] Receive enable
interrupt message with irqEnableMask: 20008000

I assume these came when I pushed the power button to reboot the system.

I have reverted to the 8.3 driver and still am getting artifacts but no feeze
yet...
