Additional info. I tried a fresh install. The install only completed when I added "acpi- off noapic nolapic" to the command line boot options. Once finished installing, I was able to successfully log in *once* adding the same options to the boot line. From there I was able to update packages and enable the Nvidia restricted device driver, but now I can't boot up any more after a restart. Exactly the same failure problems in exactly the same place, even with supplying the "acpi-off noapic nolapic" arguments.
I get to the login screen, enter my name and password, and within abou3 3-4 seconds, everything stops responding. I can move the mouse pointer around until it stops responding. Very reliably, 3-4 seconds after hitting return on the password. This is now extra frustrating as it worked once, but no now longer works. -- Hardy 8.04 install problem - freeze after login or Ubiquity start (wubi windows installer) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227606 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
