I cannot reproduce this anymore because I no longer have the equipment. The equipment was a usb hub built into my CRT monitor that caused the problem. I converted to an LCD monitor now and I no longer use a hub and therefore cannot replicate the problem if I wanted to.
I see no evidence that anything was done to correct this bug, and it appears that it at least still existed during hardy beta 1.
