A similar (same?) bug happens for me too: My pendrive is not automounted, and from that moment, no other media is automounted either, and the KDE media status is not refreshed.
So if I insert a CD, it is fine. Then I insert my USB stick, which appears in /dev, but not in KDE. If I remove the CD now, its icon remains on the desktop (and on the Storage Media panel applet).
