** Summary changed:
- display problems after upgrading to gutsy
+ Display DefaultDepth wrong after upgrading to Gutsy requires manual setting
to 16bpp
** Description changed:
i was upgrading to gutsy from feisty on my old IBM i1300 laptop. after
upgrade depth of my display was reduced to 8bpp (although DefaultDepth
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf was set to 24). looked into Xorg logs, and i found
that my card (driver: siliconmotion) should be able to display 32bpp, so
i set that in xorg.conf. after x restart the screen was black, and all i
could do was restart in rescue mode and switch to 16bpp. this solved the
problem. nevertheless someone should fix that bug.
+
+ [Update]
+ Same problem here, after updating to gutsy my Amilo M (Silicon Motion SM720
Lynx3DM) runs awfully slow. The Xorg process took 100% CPU just to redraw a
window.
+
+ To get rid of the corruptions and performance problems change in the
+ /etc/X/xorg.conf from 24bit color depth to 16 bit color depth (Display
+ Section).
** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided => Medium
Status: New => Confirmed
