I tried your suggestions but the problem persists. What I have found is that if I comment out the item.set_submenu(menu) line (in this method and the next, because the "Open Recent Translation" code has the same problem) the program no longer freezes. The "Open Recent" menu no longer functions, of course, but it seems like a viable workaround until this bug can be fixed :-)
