It is installed by default (I was the one who proposed its inclusion!) I too am bitten by gvfs-fuse-daemon segfaults, despite being on 0.2.3-0ubuntu5 from proposed-updates :( Is there an easy 'debug build' which could provide more info / full backtrace?
