Some news:
The install CD of Ubuntu 7.10 /kernel 2.6.22 can boot and install. Both kernels 2.6.22 and 2.6.24 erroneously load the r8169 driver, which crashes under 2.6.24. In contrast, under 2.6.22 it really brings up the eth0 device and feels as if it was present, you can configure, start the dhcp daemon, listen your own network traffic with tcpdump, but it simply does not send or receive any packages. At least the Ubuntu 7.10 CDROM allows to install a system (which can then be upgraded with the 8.04 CD). My current workaround is to remove the r8169 driver from the kernel tree and to replace it with the Realtek 8101 driver for Linux taken from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false Unfortunately, this driver compiles with 2.6.22, but not with 2.6.24. regards Hadmut -- Installation/Kernel crash with RTL8101E Ethernet https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229113 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
