Public bug reported:

After updating with latest updates from Hardy (for 11/5/2008) and rebooting,
GDM face browser no longer shows users. Logging in works normally in both
terminal and GDM if the user types her name correctly.
Once logged in, the fast user switcer applet only offers users that are already
logged in, so to switch to another user one needs to press the Quit button,
choose Switch User and type the name of the next user in the console, instead
of simply choosing their name in the switcher.

Additionally, at first I could access no administration tools that use
PolicyKit to unlock access after the administrative tool has loaded -
the Unlock button was always disabled, but after I rebooted again, it
now works.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
