You seem to be running the old kernel, so using the new one should give
you proper resolution.
The logs showed that the upgrade from 7.10 went fine, but additional updates on
8.04 broke things? Please run
'ls -l /usr/lib/nvidia /usr/lib/xorg/modules'
and paste the output here.
