Strangely enough, there is some code in grub4dos that does that:

. = Entry_32 + 0x47

        .ascii  "NO NAME    "   /* volume label, 11 bytes. */

        . = Entry_32 + 0x52

        .ascii  "FAT32   "      /* filesystem ID, 8 bytes. */

Looks like it is trying to populate a volume label and sticking that
stuff in the MBR for some strange reason....
