I've reviewed the patch; here's the changes it implements:
  * Version from 2.8.0 to 2.9.0
  * Adds file geode_ddc.c to implement routines for querying monitor 
capabilities via DDC
  * Switches code to use DDC querying routines
  * Drops old code that used VBE's EDID querying for monitor capabilities

All in all, the patch looks sane to me, and although I've not tested it
myself, it looks acceptable to me.
