I would like to give an update about the state of my network-manager. On
2008-04-27 I had written "Currently network manager is able to sustain
an ethernet connection but does not give me an option to connect to
enable wireless." Later that day I was able to get my wireless to work.

I apologize that I cannot recall exactly what happened -- either I ran
something in System/Administration OR Hardy automatically recognized the
wireless card after a reboot, but in any case, a window appeared
directing me to the proprietary wireless driver and asked if I wanted to
use it (which I did). After following the directions in the window, the
wireless worked just fine.

So, I do now have wireless. OTOH, I did indeed receive the error listed
above during the upgrade process and it might be relevant for other
users or to improve the installation script. Thanks for looking at my
bug report!
