Public bug reported:

When I install Ubuntu 8.04 with the graphical installer (live CD) all
mouse buttons are working, as I tested by calling xev. They even out-of-
the-box function as "forward" and "back" in Firefox. After the system
boots from hard disk the mouse's side buttons (previously identified by
xev as buttons 8 and 9, although it is a 5 button mouse with an
additional wheel) no longer yield any reaction. The following call
"fixes" this, though:

# sudo /etc/init.d/mouseemu stop

For a permanent "fix" (perfect for me, since I don't need mouseemu) call

# sudo apt-get remove mouseemu

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
