Public bug reported:
Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude D520 laptop that I've just upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy.
Under Gutsy no problems.
Every boot the keyboard freezes during the gdm login screen (generally I can
enter my username and only a couple of characters of the password before it
freezes)
When this happens I can still ssh in and do a chvt to get a text console (in
which the keyboard still works)
Swapping back to X and the keyboard is still dead (mouse is OK)
However if I do (from ssh)
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
/etc/init.d/gdm start
All works fine (at least up to now)
There are other similar bug reports here but they seem to be random whereas
mine is 100% reproducable
I am attaching a file with
kernel command line
dmesg output
lscpi output
ps output
Xorg log file
xorg.conf
There is an interesting line in the Xorg log file :
[config/hal] couldn't initialise context: (null) ((null))
I have tried adding noapic and noioapic kernel options to no avail
