Yes I have the same problem here as I'm trying to get the beta drivers
installed from NVIDIA for my 9600GT.

"sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-new --remove" simply returns that it
is the latest package and will not be removed.

I did try to use EnvyNG to uninstall the NVIDIA driver which it said was
successful but nvidia-glx-new is still installed, and trying to install
the old driver fails due to the inability to remove the current driver

I am going to reinstall Hardy Heron x86_64 and start over from there and
I will post to inform if that can at least get us out of the nvidia-glx-
new situation

PS: I am new to Linux so any posts upcoming please be very explanatory
:-) THANKS!
