Russ: Yes, the password prompt by openssl-vulnkey is the problem. It would be really nice to know if someone is working on this as this causes serious problems. I am in a production environment, too, and I'm not alone.
However, I'm not sure whether this is a bug in the openvpn or in the network-manager package, or both.
