** Summary changed: - Disk randomly "halts" + Hard disk randomly "halts"
** Description changed: 1. Upgraded to hardy and kernel 2.6.24-16 (previously kernel 2.6.22-17 I think) - 2. Since then, hard disk randomly "halts" (behaviour alike that of suspending/standby). Doesn't seem to be linked to high cpu usage (which seems to be higher now since policykit installed) + 2. Since then, hard disk randomly "halts" (behaviour alike that of before suspending/standby). Doesn't seem to be linked to high cpu usage (which seems to be higher now since policykit installed) 3. Can move mouse for a while and type in terminal, but cannot execute commands (e.g. ls) and start new processes 4. Occurred ~20 times in past 2 weeks. Open files get corrupted; have to restore from backup 5. Upgraded to kernel 2.6.22-17-generic - about the same regularity of "halting". 6. Tried reducing resource usage by switching from KDE to openbox - about the same regularity of "halting". 7. Usually reboot by using alt+print screen and REISUB, which seems to result in less chance corruption. But on reboot, disk is not detected (powered?) on startup. Have to "power cycle" computer to get disk back. Seems to be similar to bug #174185 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/174185) 8. *Once*, whilst doing step 7, saw a screen with the following error looping: ------------ end request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 13076682 sd 0:0:0:0 [sda] Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK, SUGGEST_OK ------------ 9. Nothing unusual in /var/log/syslog, a couple of logs attached in logs.tgz 10. This never happened when I was using gutsy or feisty Thanks. -- Hard disk randomly "halts" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/229968 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
