I can confirm this bug with Gutsy and Hardy. Things worked fine in Feisty. As a workaround it is possible to install Kaffeine 0.8.4 compiled for Feisty which I downloaded a while ago from the getdeb.net site (not available anymore). My guess is that this is some issue with the XCB support in xine. From the changelog of Kaffeine 0.8.6 we read "xine-part: added --without-xcb configure flag (e.g. if you want to use opengl)". Would be interesting to know how the Ubuntu Kaffeine binaries were compiled and if this option would help to solve the issue. It's a shame this bug is not being addressed. Looks like it shouldn't be a difficult fix.
