I can confirm that I am also having this problem on a new Hardy install with imap.gmail.com . I am unable to delete the unnamed empty folder, and I cannot unsubscribe from it.
Evolution support for IMAP servers certainly seems to have got worse since Hardy. I didn't have this problem before, and am now having various problems with IMAP including being unable to view certain IMAP Folders (eg. 'All Mail' folder on imap.gmail.com - I get a 'Server Unexpectedly disconnected' error message).
