I got into other problems like X failing after
that (see my previous comment).
There was a problem in my menu.lst... I had included "noapic". To make gutsy
run on my laptop I needed that.
Hardy does not seem to require that anymore. I did a fresh install of Hardy.
The new menu.lst does not have noapic. I do not have any problems with usplash
anymore.
