I've been having this problem as well on Hardy i386. It actually seems to be related somehow to the driver (or maybe screen resolution) that I'm running - gdm consistently segfaults when it loads when I use the "intel" xorg driver (with a Q965 chipset) whereas it works fine with the "i810" driver (which has resolution limitations that make it useless for me).
There doesn't seem to be any way to recover from the crash - the entire system freezes with a blank screen. I don't see anything in /var/crash, and the only error I see in kern.log is "May 14 18:25:34 te409-03 kernel: [ 684.325922] gdm[5884]: segfault at 10c05150 eip b780f635 esp bf8283e0 error 4". Switching to xdm for now has fixed the problem, so I don't think it's just a driver issue. -- [Hardy] [gdm ?] Apparently random crashes with completly hang of the machine mostly on startup with errors in loading gdm-applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
