Public bug reported: It just happens at a cold boot.
The boot process starts normally, but when the X server is about to get control of the video card I get a black screen. Apparently no system activity and no mouse cursor. Can't switch virtual terminals also. But there is video signal, a black screen. I'm attaching X.org logs for a crash boot and for a normal boot. In the crash case the log stops somewhere in the NVIDIA driver's initialization. A very strange thing I noticed comparing the two logs is that in the crash case (and in all the cold starts I tested) I get the entry: (II) PCI Memory resource overlap reduced 0xf0000000 from 0xf7ffffff to 0xefffffff And in the hot starts (normal boot), I have:x86_64 (II) PCI Memory resource overlap reduced 0xf0000000 from 0xf0000000 to 0xefffffff I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 for x86_64, with all updates as of today (May 15th) kernel: 2.6.24-16-generic I don't have problems using the NV open source driver. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- System crashes at X.org start after cold boot (using nvidia driver) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/230913 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
