Public bug reported:

Ever since I upgraded to hardy, the ram usage has been reported
incorrectly. At first I thought it was conky that was bugged, but now
that I found another application that reports incorrectly then it seems
that it is a system wide bug.

a few days ago:
free reports:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1932840 1902976 29864 0 30060 879128
-/+ buffers/cache: 993788 939052
Swap: 979956 40548 939408

conky reports:
1.82gb/1.84gb

htop reports:
970mb/1887mb

gnome-system-monitor reports:
970.9mb/1.8gb

clearly something is reporting the memory incorrectly. I'm quite sure that
~900mb is the correct reading as I am running openbox, not a desktop
environment.
---
Now i have upgraded my system to 4gb of ram, and it still displays 98% usage of
ram in free and conky. This never happened in 7.10. (amd64)
Motherboard: Asus M2A-VM
Bios version: 1603
The ram is 4x1gb

Feel free to ask me for output of anything.
