I can confirm this and was ready to report this bug: Using Kubuntu Hardy with OpenOffice.org 2.4.0.
When starting Ooqs2 it loads OOo in the background, like this: /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin -nologo -nodefault -splash-pipe=5 When starting e.g. OOo Writer it works as expected. When closing e.g. OOo Writer, the OOo background process is gone.
