I think that a top bar (like Krdc and mstsc have) is still needed even
when the CTRL+ALT+DELETE shortcut is working. At the very least there
should be dialog that pops up when you connect in full screen for the
first time:

To exit full screen mode, press Ctrl+Alt+Enter simultaneously.
[ ] Do not show this tip again
OK

When in fulllscreen mode, impossible to close/minimize fullscreen and so forth.
