ssb.ko does NOT load in linux kernel 2.6.24. This is pretty well

next.html?sid=edc3489ee46054163e178ad2b850148a . There are a lot of
helpful links and documentation there. This page confirms the need for
a patch on 2.6.24, and documents the procedure, but is NOT ubuntu
specific, so might be difficult for most users.

. I recommend building the patch into these four kernel objects for
download in Ubuntu's package managment system (aptitude, synaptic,
etc.): ssb, b43, b43legacy, and b44. I also recommend blacklisting
bcm43xx by default if it has not been done already. I have successfully
built these objects for 2.6.24-generic on Ubuntu Hardy Heron (x86_64)
with no problems whatsoever loading them into the existing kernel. My
knowledge of kernel module building is limited, so I'm not sure why the
new ko file are about 5 times the size of the originals, but I don't
really care as long as they work (which they do).
