schlehmil: you can check for the process first using ps, or use a more
pythonic approach ("asking forgiveness is easier than asking
permission"):
try:
os.kill(ppid)
except:
pass
it would be better to make that
except SomeExceptionType:
if you can find out which exception is being thrown, of course.
