I've found a better work around that suggests this is a problem with
ia32-libs.
If you edit /etc/nsswitch.conf and place 'dns' before the
'mdns4_minimal' on the 'hosts' line, it will work.
I can't figure out why, though. In C, gethostbyname() works in both 32
and 64 bit. I don't know how to track down what Java does to resolve
names.
