I'm encountering a similar problem with a new LUKS/dm-crypt setup on Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04. I've discovered that it occurs if the OpenSSL encrypted key file is using aes-256-cbc but it works correctly with aes-256-ecb. Using OpenSSL to decrypt the key and piping it to cryptsetup works with both methods. ClemensBier can you confirm this?
